The Big Camera Question has been answered! After a lot of deliberation I decided to pick the Nikon D3100, going for a DSLR over a compact system camera. I talked a lot with a couple of my friends who are passionate about photography and really know their stuff. Within my price range, I could get a better quality DSLR than a compact system camera. I didn’t want to go for the slightly cheaper compact system option and be compromising on function for the sake of size. After going and actually holding the D31oo in store I realised that although with the lens the camera is large, it’s actually really light and fit well in my hand, making it comfortable to use. Last week I decided to take the plunge and buy it, and my camera arrived today.
Once I’ve had time to really ‘get to know’ the camera I’ll post a proper review from the point of view of a first-time DSLR user and all round camera novice! For now, I’ll say that the D3100 has been really easy to use. The lens the camera comes with (AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm) can be used with autofocus, so I could point and click straight away. Although some of the buttons still elude me, I’ve only had it a day and I’m so surprised and overjoyed with the quality of the photos. Here are a few of my day today, I spent the afternoon out in the Spring sunshine doing DIY projects with my housemate.
I’m so excited as this camera means better content for this blog and more photos of my own. I’m so glad I made the scary decision and bought this camera!
