The Big Move

The Big Move: New Flat Floor Plan

The Big Move is less than two weeks away, so its about time you got to see what I’m moving to! This floor plan isn’t accurate, but hopefully you can get a sense of what the new, maisonette flat is like. It’s above a shop and accessed around the back by a not-so-glamorous fire escape-esque mental staircase and, luckily, it has outside space! As I’ve mentioned before, ‘space’ is about all it is, as it’s pretty much a concerete slab surrounded by two and a half high brick walls (the sides of the building) and a high, slightly worse for wear, wooden fence. I can’t wait to transform that space!

So here’s the floor plan:FLOOR PLAN NEW HOUSE

Entrance:
The entrance of the flat is beige carpet with the stairs on the right hand side. On the left, there’s the bathroom.

Bathroom:
The bathroom is a really good size, plus it’s not on the ‘ground floor’ so hopefully it might be a bit warmer than the one we have at the moment. There’s the standard sink, toilet and bath with an electric shower over it. There’s also room for us to add our own storage too!

Kitchen:
Before you reach the stairs, on your right is the kitchen. It’s huge and open plan, which is going to be great coming from two years of having a galley kitchen. There’s room for it to be a proper kitchen-dining room with a table to have evening meals on, rather than eating off a coffee table sat on the sofa!

Living Room:
Through the kitchen are a pair of double doors leading to the living room. It will be a treat to have so much living space, but it will definitely be used as a bedroom for guests and so far it seems like it may be a guest bedroom for a least a month or so before we decide what to do with it.

Loft Bedroom (purple):
Upstairs there are two bedrooms, and mine is the ‘loft room’ (it’s not purple, it just helps to tell them apart on the plan!). I loved this room as it gives space for the bed to be separate from the rest of the room. I also have a thing for sloping ceilings in bedrooms, it makes them feel cosy and quirky! The only downside, as I mentioned here, is the lack of natural light in the room, but a lamp will soon fix that.

Big Bedroom (pink):
This bedroom is only slightly bigger than mine, but the layout makes it seem huge! This will be Ali (and Gary’s) room. They have a big window with loads of natural light, so I’m looking forward to seeing what they do with their room. I’m sensing owls, cupcakes and skulls… and eclectic but winning combination!

Stressful as the move will be, I can’t wait to actually get in and start decorating! Check out my post here for my initial decorating ideas. Keep watching for more posts on The Big Move, including our furniture inventory. I’m approaching that one with equal amounts of curiosity and feelings of impending doom…

  1. Aww, this is so exciting! Can’t wait to see what you do with the space. Renting can be hard because there’s so much you can’t change, but I find it just makes you get more creative. Good luck!
